Word of the Week

Botanical Nerd Word: Inosculation

Inosculation: Fusing together of woody stems where they come in contact with each other; this can happen within one individual or between two or more individuals.*

The braided stems of this ficus tree have fused together over time to form one solid trunk.

*Pell, S.K., Angell, B. (2016). A botanist’s vocabulary: 1300 terms explained and illustrated. Portland: Timber Press.
