Word of the Week: Imbricate

Imbricate: Overlapping like roofing shingles; in conifers, used for tightly pressed scale leaves of many Cupressaceae and Podocarpaceae.*

The arborvitae (Thuja) above, a member of the Cupressaceae family, has imbricate scale leaves.
