Grow Your Own Clean Air

There are many things you can do to improve air quality in your indoor space. Consider adding double-duty plants that not only look great, but clean the air as well.

Potted tropical foliage plants to consider:

  • Snake Plant, Sansevieria trifasciata removes benzene, formaldehyde and reduces carbon dioxide (CO2)
  • Spider Plant, Chlorophytum comosum, removes benzene, formaldehyde
  • English Ivy, Hedera helix, removes formaldehyde
  • Peace lily, Spathiphyllum, removes Acetone and benzene
  •  Lady Palm, Rhapis excels, removes ammonia, also Bamboo palm or reed palm (Chamaedorea sefritzii)
  •  Boston Fern, Nephrolepis exaltata, removes formaldehyde from air
  •  Draceana, Dracaena marginata, removes formaldehyde and select other gasses Cornstalk dracaena (Dracaena fragans ‘Massangeana’), Janet Craig dracaena (Dracaena deremensis ‘Janet Craig’), Warneck dracaena (Dracaena deremensis ‘Warneckii’)
  • Golden Pothos, Epipremnum aureum, removes formaldehyde, carbon monoxide and benzene.
  • Aloe, Aloe vera, not only great soothe skin after a burn and removes formaldehyde and benzene

A few flowering potted plants to also consider:

  • Wax Begonia, Begonia semperflorens removes benzene
  • Chrysanthemum, Chrysanthemum morifolium , removes benzene
  • Gerber daisy, Gerbera jamesonii , removes trichloroethylene and  benzene
  • Azalea, Rhododendron simsii, removes formaldehyde
