In January 2015 Toronto Botanical Garden (TBG) unveiled its proposal to elevate the TBG to the level of other globally-acclaimed botanical gardens. The “Integrated Conceptual Proposals” report was developed by W. Gary Smith, Landscape Architect, along with PMA Landscape Architects and the participation of renowned garden designer, John Brookes. The proposals take a holistic view of the landscape formed by the present four-acre TBG and Edwards Gardens, with its parkland and ravine. As the only major North American city without a significant botanical garden, Toronto is shown in the report to have the potential of acquiring a cultural institution found in most of the world’s major cities.
We are a vibrant community of members, volunteers and stakeholders with a dream to create this new garden. Further planning, led by the City of Toronto, is underway to examine the potential of this site and our exciting options. We look forward to public participation in the process.
