The Garden Launches Call for Board and Committee Nominations

March 2023 – Toronto Botanical Garden (the Garden), is looking to add new talent to its dedicated, volunteer Board of Directors and committees to help guide the organization through continued organizational growth, pursuing excellence in its operations and core mission work.

Directors and committee members serve as ambassadors for the organization and offer leadership, insights, and support. They represent, engage and celebrate the diverse communities and groups that makeup Toronto and our region. The Garden is committed to pursuing a future where everyone belongs. We can all grow, learn and better serve our community with a diversity of perspectives and lived experiences. We welcome the unique contributions people can bring in terms of their education, culture, ethnicity, Indigenous status, race, languages spoken, gender identity and expression, age, religion, disability, sexual orientation, and beliefs. Toronto Botanical Garden is a not-for-profit charity located in mid-Toronto with a mission to connect people to plants, inspiring us to live in harmony with nature. Today, the Garden continues to grow as an inspired plant place, an engaging learning environment, and a dynamic community hub, while elevating the importance of our city’s cultivated and natural places.  The Garden is embarking on an exciting landmark capital expansion with a vision to become an iconic cultural attraction achieving excellence in plant-focused education, display, natural areas restoration, plant conservation, and research across a 35-acre site that will serve over 1 million visitors per year.

In partnership with the City of Toronto, the Garden will expand (in phases) its management responsibilities over the Edwards Gardens site. Seeking to raise the social capital in our region the organization is re-aligning its efforts to become a purpose-led botanical garden, cultivating a community with a profound connection to nature, inspiring impact in its unique ecosystem and beyond.

The Garden has a skills-based governance Board of Directors responsible for providing oversight for operations and the expansion project. We are looking for qualified candidates to join the Board and/or committees in June 2023.
