Call for Board of Director Nominations

April 6, 2022 – Toronto Botanical Garden (the Garden), is looking to add new talent to its dedicated, volunteer Board of Directors to help guide the organization through continued organizational growth and an ambitious expansion.

Toronto Botanical Garden is a not-for-profit charity located in mid-Toronto with a mission to connect people to plants, inspiring us to live in harmony with nature. The Garden is embarking on an exciting landmark capital expansion with a  vision to become an iconic cultural attraction achieving excellence in plant-focused education, display, natural areas restoration, plant conservation, and research across a 35-acre site that will serve over 1 million visitors per year.

As the Garden expands its managerial oversight, the organization is currently scaling up to achieve sustained organizational performance as a modern, world-class living museum, ensuring access for all.  

The Garden has a skills-based governance Board of Directors responsible for providing oversight for the operations and the expansion project. We are looking for two qualified candidates to join the Board in June 2022. Along with a shared passion for gardens, nature, and conservation, we are seeking individuals who live in our community, within the City of Toronto or the GTA.  

EXPERIENCE

We are particularly interested in candidates with experience in the following:

  • Construction Project Management
  • Landscape Architecture, Architecture, or related field
  • Fundraising and Development
  • Finance and Accounting

Prior non-profit board experience or non-profit board governance training is an asset.  The Garden is striving to reflect the broad diversity of the people who visit the garden and the city we serve. To this end,  we encourage applications from people of diverse communities.

TIME COMMITMENT

The Board meets monthly, and all Directors are expected to participate in committee work.

BOARD NOMINATION PROCESS

Nominations will be accepted until Friday, April 29, 2022, with the election at the Annual General Meeting on June 9, 2022.

Applicants under consideration for one of the positions will be contacted for a personal interview with the members of the Nominations Committee.

The Nominations Committee is comprised of the Chair of the Board, two Board Directors, and the Director of Horticulture. Final recommendations will be approved by the Board in late May, followed by the election of new Board Directors at the Annual General Meeting on June 9, 2022.
