Jane’s Walk: Rituals of Memory: Love, Loss, and Belonging
May 2 @ 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm

Celebrate the 2026 Jane’s Walk Festival at Toronto Botanical Garden
This walk explores how public gardens become emotional landscapes shaped by love, memory, and everyday acts of care. Moving through the Toronto Botanical Garden and Edwards Gardens, participants will observe how formal features like memorial benches and wedding spaces intersect with informal practices such as inscriptions, photography, and personal rituals.
Drawing on ethnographic research, this walk invites participants to reflect on how people leave traces of themselves in public space and how these spaces quietly hold stories of connection, loss, and belonging. Together, we will consider how urban green spaces function not just ecologically, but emotionally and culturally within the city.
Saturday, May 2, 1 to 2 p.m.
Free to attend. Arrive early to secure your spot.
Please meet Liann in the Lobby at the Reception Desk.
About Liann Dsouza
Liann Dsouza is an environmental scientist based in Toronto, with a Master’s in Environmental Science from the University of Toronto. Her work spans both industry and research, including experience with algae-based systems for carbon capture and environmental remediation, and current work in sustainable mining.
Her interests also extend into geography, where she explores how food, culture, and everyday practices shape the way people experience place. As a volunteer at the Toronto Botanical Garden, she has spent time thinking about how public green spaces hold personal and shared meaning through memory, ritual, and connection.
Liann’s work has been recognized by the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority through the Harper Bull Scholarship. She is interested in bringing together science and lived experience to explore how environmental systems and human stories come together in the spaces we share.
