The season we’ve all been waiting for is finally here. Early this May, we sat down with our horticulture team and asked them a key question: “If the Garden could talk in May, what do you think it would it say?”
Megan B’s answer was short and sweet: “Of course it would be ‘Welcome to the show!’”
Horticulturist Jess C. builds on that concept. She imagines the Garden’s show as a symphony, with each plant playing different instruments calling out “warmth, warmth, warmth; reach, reach, reach and grow, grow, grow!” Her favourite plant performers are anything blue, like the sky. Take Camassia, which needs sunlight to help it grow and shade out weeds. She’ll compost and mulch it to keep it moist, or water it when it gets too hot. Before long, her summer symphony arrives with youthful tones that are fun and flirty, leading to fall when buzzing bees join the quieter nestling sounds of burrowing bugs and critters.
It’s in May when gardens grow and communities build back with it. That’s why this spring, we’re relaunching TBG’s beloved Gifts to the Garden campaign. Proceeds from this spring and summer campaign will support the planting, preparation and community that brings the Garden back to life for another year of blooms and being together.
