DESCRIPTION:Connect with nature and join us for a guided forest therapy walk!\nRekindle your relationship with nature this summer through a guided outdoor forest bathing walk with certified Forest Therapy guide Laura Bincik. At a slow pace and in community with other participants and the environment\, you will be guided by a series of invitations throughout the experience to awaken your senses and intentionally connect with nature in the present moment.\n \nWe will gather briefly indoors to prepare for the walk and consider the origin of forest bathing as well as some of the benefits of the practice. When we venture into the Toronto Botanical Gardens and surrounding ravine\, we will cover a loop of approx.1.5 km on paved pathways\, lawns and bare ground\, at times encountering uneven terrain\, inclines and declines. We will be strolling\, standing and sitting (if you wish to). Your comfort and safety are most important!\n \nAs this program occurs rain or shine\, please dress for the weather and wear sturdy\, closed-toed footwear. Long pants and shirt sleeves will help to protect against insect bites. You may wish to bring a water bottle\, sunhat/glasses\, walking poles and/or a folding stool or sitting/kneeling pad.\n \nAs the walk ends\, we will gather and partake in a seasonal tea\, snacks\, and taste honey harvested at Toronto Botanical Garden.\n \nIn the event of severe weather or environmental conditions\, TBG staff will make alternative arrangements to the program.\n \nWashrooms are available onsite.\n \nThe program is suited for adults 18+. Alan’s mission is to build connections to nature through arts-based education. Since 2015\, he has been partnering with non-profit environmental organizations to teach nature focused art programs and workshops.\n \nAlan was responsible for the successful launch of the Toronto Nature Sketch program in 2018\, teaching all of the art lessons during that inaugural year. Nature Sketch is an initiative of Canadian artist Robert Bateman and the Bateman Foundation.\n \nIn 2019\, Alan was a speaker at the annual Ravine Symposium at Toronto Botanical Garden. In his presentation\, he shared stories behind ravine inspired artwork created by himself and a small brigade of volunteer artists. She was amazed by the possibilities and beauty of paper quilling\, that she decided to pursue it as a full-time career. DESCRIPTION:Connect with nature and join us for a guided forest therapy walk!\n \nRekindle your relationship with nature this spring through a guided outdoor Forest Bathing walk with certified Forest Therapy guide Laura Bincik. At a slow pace and in community with other participants and the environment\, you will be guided by a series of invitations throughout the experience to awaken your senses and intentionally connect with nature in the present moment.\n \nWe will gather briefly indoors to prepare for the walk and consider the origin of Forest Bathing as well as some of the benefits of the practice. When we venture into the Toronto Botanical Gardens and surrounding ravine\, we will cover a loop of approx.1.5 km on paved pathways\, lawns and bare ground\, at times encountering uneven terrain\, inclines and declines. We will be strolling\, standing and sitting (if you wish to). Your comfort and safety are most important! As this program occurs rain or shine\, please dress for the weather and wear sturdy\, closed-toed footwear. Long pants and shirt sleeves will help to protect against insect bites. Alan’s mission is to build connections to nature through arts-based education. Since 2015\, he has been partnering with non-profit environmental organizations to teach nature focused art programs and workshops. \nAlan was responsible for the successful launch of the Toronto Nature Sketch program in 2018\, teaching all of the art lessons during that inaugural year. SUMMARY:Upcycled Fabric Printmaking Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a fun-filled day of linocut printmaking on upcycled fabric! \nBreathe new life into your old fabrics! Bring your old cotton fabrics (t-shirts\, tote bags\, etc.) and learn how to create and print original Linocut images onto them. Please bring reference photos\, designs and sketches for inspiration; we’ll be carving a 4 x 6 inch lino block\, so your image will need to fit those dimensions. \nA few tips on what type of fabric to bring:\n \n\n100% cotton is best; avoid any synthetic fibres as the ink will not bond properly.\nA smooth\, fine woven fabric is preferable to coarse woven fabric.\n\nWe’ll be using oil-based inks that are water washable. This eliminates the use of cleaning solvents\, however\, the ink still has a mild scent of Linseed oil.\n \nOil based ink takes about a week to dry. We will provide boxes for you to pin your fabric\, so it can be carried safely to your car. If you travel by TTC\, leave your fabrics with us and pick them up at a later date once they’re dry.\n \nSaturday\, April 25\, 1 to 4 p.m.\nPublic $75\, TBG Members $65 (plus applicable taxes and fees)\nAbout Alan Li\nArtist and conservationist Alan Li uses pencils\, ink and paint to document the wonders of the natural world. Alan’s mission is to build connections to nature through arts-based education. Since 2015\, he has been partnering with non-profit environmental organizations to teach nature focused art programs and workshops.\nAlan was responsible for the successful launch of the Toronto Nature Sketch program in 2018\, teaching all of the art lessons during that inaugural year. Nature Sketch is an initiative of Canadian artist Robert Bateman and the Bateman Foundation.\nIn 2019\, Alan was a speaker at the annual Ravine Symposium at Toronto Botanical Garden. In his presentation\, he shared stories behind ravine inspired artwork created by himself and a small brigade of volunteer artists. DESCRIPTION:Join us to create lifelike paper cherry blossoms with botanical accuracy!Beautiful Cherry Blossoms arrive in early Spring but to our dismay the blooms are so short. Join paper artist Nancy Lalicon for the “Paper to Petal: Cherry Blossoms Workshop” to create your own bouquet of flowers which will last much\, much longer. In this 4-hour session\, participants will learn to create lifelike Cherry Blossoms in two shades of pink. Nancy will guide you through constructing the flowers using precut petals and leaf templates. You will have the opportunity to make as many branches as you wish. Discover the art of paper floristry and leave with your own stunning creations. SUMMARY:Rooted & Reaching: Art Therapy at The Garden
DESCRIPTION:Join Mahja Kabir\, an artist and art therapy trainee\, for a weekly open art therapy experience! \nStep into the garden and take a pause with Rooted & Reaching\, a weekly open art therapy group for adults offered in collaboration with the Toronto Botanical Garden. You’re invited to slow down\, ground yourself\, and explore your inner world through gentle meditation\, open-ended art-making\, and optional sharing. Guided by nature-inspired prompts\, we’ll use the garden as a space and metaphor for growth\, connection\, and belonging. \nThe group is facilitated by Mahja Kabir\, an artist and art therapy trainee who creates gentle\, creative spaces that support care\, growth\, and connection. Art therapy supports emotional expression and relational attunement through the creative process\, with no focus on artistic skill or final outcomes. \nSessions feature standalone themes\, allowing participants to attend any number of weeks across the six-week series. \nNo art experience is required\, only presence and curiosity. The focus is on the creative process rather than the final artwork\, offering a supportive space to reflect\, connect\, and simply be. \nPlease note\, all participants will be asked to sign a consent form upon arrival to agree to participate in the clinical placement provided by art therapy interns of the Kutenai Art Therapy Institute.
