DESCRIPTION:Three landscapes and what they teach us about our interactions with the natural world. \n\n\n\nThis presentation of photographs\, sketches and drawings created by Architect\, Howard Rideout will reveal three very personal landscapes that he has nurtured for decades. The first is a city garden pruned to perfection\, the second is a large tangled garden created for his parents which has reverted into a semi-natural state and the third is a large wilderness preserve Howard has been imagining since he was a child and which has only recently come into fruition. As a graduate of the University of Waterloo School of Architecture\, and a member of both the Ontario Association of Architects\, and the American Society of Architectural Illustrators he has built a successful design career that spans from residential projects in Ontario to planning university campuses\, waterfront communities as well as numerous luxury hotels and resorts in China. His architectural projects in rural Ontario are highlighted in the book\, “Building Community/Community Building\, The Work of Howard Rideout Architect in Simcoe County”. He has received numerous awards for this work\, with environmental stewardship being a driving force in his design philosophy. The music presented in this concert is centred around the musical genre of the “divertimento\,” from the Italian divertire “to amuse.” This light-hearted music was frequently played at social functions\, sometimes outdoors\, bringing people together to delight and revel in the antics of the performers. DESCRIPTION:Join us at the Houseplant Clinic to diagnose and cure all your indoor plants’ ailments! \n\n\n\nAre you noticing yellow\, droopy leaves on your houseplant? Perhaps you’ve also noticed sticky leaves or an infestation of little flies or spiders. Don’t worry – TBG Horticulturalists are here to help! Join us for this in-person houseplant clinic where we will introduce common problems and their remedies and then we’ll help you identify and solve common problems that your tropical indoor plants may be experiencing! \n\n\n\nRemember\, prevention is key when it comes to keeping your houseplants healthy. Avoid overwatering\, provide adequate light and ventilation\, and regularly inspect your plants for any signs of pests or diseases. By identifying and addressing the problems early on\, you can ensure that your tropical indoor plants will thrive. \n\n\n\nImportant: Your plant MUST be brought to TBG in a transparent plastic bags–this ‘portable greenhouse’ will keep your plant safe and keep your plant problems to your own plant. We cannot take the risk that your indoor plant problem becomes ours! Any plant not in a transparent bag will not be admitted. Come prepared with your dreams & ideas! \nPART 2 – Garden to Table: Get to know your veggies! \nWednesday\, March 13\, 7 to 9 p.m. \nBrassica\, Solanum\, Curcubita\, Cucumis\, Lactuca\, and Daucus\, oh my! DESCRIPTION:In this follow up to Classic Design Fundamentals 1\, you will enrich your understanding of traditional design. \n\n\n\nJoin Lil Taggart in this follow up to Classic Design Fundamentals I and enrich your understanding of traditional design\, a style which is used in contemporary settings with sophistication. You will gain deeper knowledge of both plant material and design. You will learn colour theory: the importance of colour and how to create different colour harmonies. You will explore the concept and importance of asymmetry in a design and how this can be used to great effect. DESCRIPTION:Join us for an immersive experience of mindfulness\, meditation\, and movement. \n\n\n\nWhat is mindfulness\, how can it help you\, and how do you do it? What’s the difference between mindfulness and meditation? How can movement connect these concepts? \n\n\n\nThis session with physiotherapist Susan Czyzo will begin by providing a relatable introduction to mindfulness. We will explore its meaning\, purpose\, and relevance in our modern lives. By breaking down the abstract nature of mindfulness\, participants will gain a clearer understanding of its essence. Meditation is a fundamental aspect of mindfulness. During the workshop\, participants will be guided through various meditation techniques to connect with the present moment. Grounded in her deep knowledge of the body\, physiotherapy and pilates\, Susan will help you connect with and become more deeply aware of your physical body and emotions through gentle movement. DESCRIPTION:Learn the basics of classic floral design including four styles – a water-viewing design\, a centrepiece\, a crescent\, and a mass design. \n\n\n\nThis course is the prerequisite to all other courses in TBG’s Floral Design Certificate program. SUMMARY:Mindfulness\, Meditation\, and Movement
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an immersive experience of mindfulness\, meditation\, and movement. \n\n\n\nWhat is mindfulness\, how can it help you\, and how do you do it? What’s the difference between mindfulness and meditation? How can movement connect these concepts? \n\n\n\nThis session with physiotherapist Susan Czyzo will begin by providing a relatable introduction to mindfulness. We will explore its meaning\, purpose\, and relevance in our modern lives. By breaking down the abstract nature of mindfulness\, participants will gain a clearer understanding of its essence. Meditation is a fundamental aspect of mindfulness. During the workshop\, participants will be guided through various meditation techniques to connect with the present moment. Grounded in her deep knowledge of the body\, physiotherapy and pilates\, Susan will help you connect with and become more deeply aware of your physical body and emotions through gentle movement. To deepen the learning experience\, time will be allocated for group discussion. Participants will have the opportunity to share their insights\, ask questions\, and reflect on their experiences with mindfulness. This communal aspect will foster a sense of belonging and support among participants. SUMMARY:Painted Birch Glass Plate Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Learn how to design and create a birch bark design glass plate! \n\n\n\nBirch\, one of Canada’s most beautiful trees\, is characterized by papery\, peeling trunks with distinct horizontal banding. In this session\, participants will learn to create a glass plate with a painted birch bark design. Through the process\, participants will understand the process of creating paint-decorated fused glass – this includes safety\, types of glass\, co-efficiencies of glass\, and the firing of their pieces. The perfect gift for a loved one!! \n\n\n\nSuitable for absolute beginners. Materials included. Pieces are fired off-site and will be ready for pick up at TBG 2-3 weeks after the workshop. For safety purposes\, wear closed-toed shoes\, no loose sleeves/scarves\, no jewelry\, and hair must be tied back. \n\n\n\nNotes: Your piece will be taken off-site to be fired and will be ready for pick up 3-4 weeks later. Currently\, she is a member of the Potter’s Studios in Scarborough and Glasstronomy Studios in Markham. Since retiring from education\, Millean has devoted her time to her Pottery and Glass Art. She is the sole proprietor of her business\, “1 in a Millean”\, and participates in a number of Arts and Crafts Shows. Millean is a member and a volunteer at the Toronto Botanical Garden.
