DESCRIPTION:Get ready to dive into the world of Modern Design florals with Margaret Taylor!Learn about the ground-breaking designs developed in the freedom-seeking 1960s\, such as modern line\, modern mass and modern layer. These designs are stylish and sophisticated and bridge the traditional with the future and abstract. Course fees do not include flowers or supplies. About Margaret Taylor For more than 15 years\, Margaret’s passion for flowers has led her to exhibit\, judge\, demonstrate and teach floral design in Canada and abroad. A recipient of many awards\, Margaret’s accolades include two Canada Blooms’ Founder’s Gold Cups for Best in Show. Margaret has also won Best in Show on three occasions at the provincial triennial show and as a result\, has been chosen to represent Canada in two world shows. It was her greatest honour to exhibit for Canada both in Boston and in India. Margaret is currently a floral design judge accredited by the Garden Clubs of Ontario\, a horticultural judge accredited by the Royal Botanical Gardens and a rose judge accredited by the Canadian Rose Society. Margaret is also a Sogetsu Ikebana teacher and exhibitor. DESCRIPTION:It’s Back! Our popular Hellebore Sale. Our selection of Hellebores will be available for pre-order through our Online Shop starting on Thursday\, February 17\, 2025.  \n\n\n\nOrders will be ready for in-person pickup on Saturday\, April 5\, 2025 at the Toronto Botanical Garden Floral Hall from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Hellebores will also be available to purchase on the day of the sale. Quantities are limited so shop early for the best selection. \n\n\n\nHelleborus\, or Lenten roses as they are more commonly referred to in the trade\, are a sought-after garden plant for many reasons. These highly hybridized plants boast beautiful flowers\, evergreen foliage\, and are one of the earliest blooming perennials. The modern hybrids of this genus build upon the classics and pack a punch. Helleborus x ballardiae\, Helleborus x glandorfensis and\, Helleborus x iburgensis combine the cold hardiness of Helleborus niger with the colour selections of Helleborus x hybridus\, with the added bonuses of disease resistance and larger showier blooms. These plants do well in the garden or in containers.When you purchase your hellebores make sure to place it in a part shade location away from harsh cold winds. They prefer soils that are rich in humus with good drainage and aren’t afraid of getting wet feet in the winter months. The ideal time to plant it is in the fall before the ground freezes. Spring is also a great option\, just make sure to provide adequate water through the growing months. \n\n\n\nA majority of Lenten rose hybrids have Helleborus niger as one of the parent plants\, so it may take your plant a year or two to settle into its new home before it blooms. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nFor more information contact the Garden Shop at orders@torontobotanicalgarden.ca.

Each class is independent and tailored towards gradual body and mind care. You can register for as many or as few as you like. The Guided Breathwork Experience program at the Toronto Botanical Garden uniquely combines breath with storytelling\, movement\, and nature to create a healthy and creative journey into the new year. Each class’ focus will be different\, progressively allowing your awareness and body to be healthier and energized. We go through multiple transitions in life. The real meaning of self care is finding confidence and care for yourself in every moment throughout the day. SUMMARY:Botanical Linocut Printmaking
DESCRIPTION:Join us and learn the basics of linocut printmaking inspired by botanicals!In this 2-part series\, you’ll create original botanical art through the process of Linocut relief printmaking. Artist and instructor Alan Li will demonstrate how to carve your design onto a linocut block and techniques for hand-printing your images. At the end of the course you’ll take home hand-crafted prints made on a variety of fine art papers. All materials are provided but please bring your own photos\, sketches or designs for inspiration and reference. Wearing an apron or old clothing is recommended. Beginners welcome. Art materials provided include*: 1 Linocut block 2 Mixed media blank note-cards with matching envelopes 2 Sheets brown art paper 2 Sheets Japanese Mulberry paper 1 Sheet grey art paper 1 Sheet white cotton paper Black printmaking ink Envelope *Subject to availability. Alan’s mission is to build connections to nature through arts-based education. Since 2015\, he has been partnering with non-profit environmental organizations to teach nature focused art programs and workshops. Alan was responsible for the successful launch of the Toronto Nature Sketch program in 2018\, teaching all of the art lessons during that inaugural year. Nature Sketch is an initiative of Canadian artist Robert Bateman and the Bateman Foundation. In 2019\, Alan was a speaker at the annual Ravine Symposium at Toronto Botanical Garden. In his presentation\, he shared stories behind ravine inspired artwork created by himself and a small brigade of volunteer artists. Funds raised through the sale of the artwork were donated to ravine conservation initiatives at the garden. Participants will have the opportunity to begin designing a garden plan with the help of a Toronto Master Gardener. Session 2 – Garden to Table: Get to know your veggies! Monday\, March 24: Brassica\, Solanum\, Curcubita\, Cucumis\, Lactuca\, and Daucus\, oh my! In this program we will introduce some of the most popular vegetable families\, how to nurture them\, protect them from pests and disease\, and when to harvest. Participants will learn key tips for reading seed packets\, about plot and container preparation\, crop rotation\, square foot gardening and companion planting. All of this will help increase bounty while practicing a holistic approach to garden management. A whole new world of tasty and fresh veggies is waiting for you! Session 3 – It’s never too late to start your veggie garden – extending the season Monday\, March 31: If you miss the spring planting season\, don’t despair! There’s still lot’s you can do to have a productive veggie garden well into the fall\, even into the winter. Many veggies\, like kale and spinach\, do better in cool weather. Some can be nursed through cold snaps with a little extra care\, and some are planted in the fall for harvest the following year. In this seminar you will learn about how you can keep on growing as the weather gets cooler and gain a general overview on how to scout and deter pests. DESCRIPTION:Design and create a beautiful floral glass tea-light holder!Imagine a small grove of trees or a crop of mushrooms with a small tealight inside. Under the guidance of Fused Glass Artist Millean Kung\, you will be able to create two (2) Fused Glass Tealight Holders. Each class is independent and tailored towards gradual body and mind care. You can register for as many or as few as you like. The Guided Breathwork Experience program at the Toronto Botanical Garden uniquely combines breath with storytelling\, movement\, and nature to create a healthy and creative journey into the new year. DESCRIPTION:Join us at the Houseplant Clinic to diagnose and cure all your indoor plants’ ailments!Are you noticing yellow\, droopy leaves on your houseplant? Perhaps you’ve also noticed sticky leaves or an infestation of little flies or spiders. Don’t worry – TBG Horticulturalists are here to help! Join us for this in-person houseplant clinic where we will introduce common problems and their remedies and then we’ll help you identify and solve common problems that your indoor plants may be experiencing! Remember\, prevention is key when it comes to keeping your houseplants healthy.   Important: Your plant MUST be brought to TBG in a transparent plastic bags–this ‘portable greenhouse’ will keep your plant safe and keep your plant problems to your own plant. We cannot take the risk that your indoor plant problem becomes ours! Any plant not in a transparent bag will not be admitted. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a winter birding nature walk!Join TBG Seasonal Horticulturist Beni to kick off the 2025 Great Backyard Bird Count. Learn how to identify common winter birds and how to contribute to citizen science through this fun\, beginner-friendly tour of the ravine and surrounding gardens. Beni will share his extensive bird knowledge\, identification\, and photography tips as you explore the ravine and surrounding areas. Bring your binoculars for a better view (we will have extras on hand) and a mug/thermos for a warm beverage and post-birding chat. As with any wildlife tour\, the spotting of birds and other wildlife is not guaranteed and is not within the control of the tour guide. Please be patient and considerate. Registration: Public $100\, TBG Members $85 (plus applicable taxes and fees) About Alan Li Artist and conservationist Alan Li uses pencils\, ink and paint to document the wonders of the natural world. Alan’s mission is to build connections to nature through arts-based education. Since 2015\, he has been partnering with non-profit environmental organizations to teach nature focused art programs and workshops. Alan was responsible for the successful launch of the Toronto Nature Sketch program in 2018\, teaching all of the art lessons during that inaugural year. Nature Sketch is an initiative of Canadian artist Robert Bateman and the Bateman Foundation. In 2019\, Alan was a speaker at the annual Ravine Symposium at Toronto Botanical Garden. In his presentation\, he shared stories behind ravine inspired artwork created by himself and a small brigade of volunteer artists. Funds raised through the sale of the artwork were donated to ravine conservation initiatives at the garden. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a fun-filled day of creating a customized botanical printed notebook!Using the process of Linocut\, you’ll be creating a custom printed Japanese notebook. From designing your image\, through to carving and printing\, our instructor will assist and demonstrate techniques. Alan’s mission is to build connections to nature through arts-based education. Since 2015\, he has been partnering with non-profit environmental organizations to teach nature focused art programs and workshops. Alan was responsible for the successful launch of the Toronto Nature Sketch program in 2018\, teaching all of the art lessons during that inaugural year. Nature Sketch is an initiative of Canadian artist Robert Bateman and the Bateman Foundation. In 2019\, Alan was a speaker at the annual Ravine Symposium at Toronto Botanical Garden. In his presentation\, he shared stories behind ravine inspired artwork created by himself and a small brigade of volunteer artists. Funds raised through the sale of the artwork were donated to ravine conservation initiatives at the garden.
