DESCRIPTION:Join us for a transformative experience\, where you’ll find inner peace and relaxation.Toronto Botanical Garden has partnered with Mira Kopanarov\, a Storyteller and Artist\, to offer a six-month breathwork experience program for creative transformation. Each class is independent and tailored towards gradual body and mind care. You can register for as many or as few as you like. The Guided Breathwork Experience program at the Toronto Botanical Garden uniquely combines breath with storytelling\, movement\, and nature to create a healthy and creative journey into the new year. Each class’ focus will be different\, progressively allowing your awareness and body to be healthier and energized. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a fun-filled day of creating a customized botanical printed notebook!Using the process of Linocut\, you’ll be creating a custom printed Japanese notebook. From designing your image\, through to carving and printing\, our instructor will assist and demonstrate techniques. By the end of the workshop you’ll have 2 unique botanical themed notebooks\, plus new printmaking skills. Please bring your own sketches\, drawings or photos for inspiration and reference. Alan’s mission is to build connections to nature through arts-based education. Since 2015\, he has been partnering with non-profit environmental organizations to teach nature focused art programs and workshops. Alan was responsible for the successful launch of the Toronto Nature Sketch program in 2018\, teaching all of the art lessons during that inaugural year. Nature Sketch is an initiative of Canadian artist Robert Bateman and the Bateman Foundation. In 2019\, Alan was a speaker at the annual Ravine Symposium at Toronto Botanical Garden. In his presentation\, he shared stories behind ravine inspired artwork created by himself and a small brigade of volunteer artists. Funds raised through the sale of the artwork were donated to ravine conservation initiatives at the garden. SUMMARY:Floral Design Program: Classic Design Fundamentals 1
DESCRIPTION:Learn the basics of classic floral design including four styles – a water-viewing design\, a centrepiece\, a crescent\, and a mass design.This course is the prerequisite to all other courses in TBG’s Floral Design Certificate program. Learn the fundamentals such as how to select and condition flowers\, how to use floral design equipment and how to achieve different types of designs. Course fees do not include flowers or supplies. Students are encouraged to find a local flower shop or grocery store to purchase their flowers. A materials list will be e-mailed prior to the start of each class. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a beautiful chorus of birdsong at the start of the day!Early in the day\, the air is calm and other sounds are low. Join us for International Dawn Chorus Day to revel in an incredible natural symphony as birds pass overhead on their southern migration south. Sasan Beni\, TBG Seasonal Horticulturist\, and avid birder\, will be on hand to help identify the birds we hear and see. Bring your binoculars for a better view (we will have extras on hand) and a mug/thermos for a warm beverage and post-birding chat. Please Note: As with any wildlife tour\, the spotting of birds and other wildlife is not guaranteed and is not within the control of the tour guide. Please be patient and considerate. The tour will not be rescheduled due to lack bird sightings. The tour will only be rescheduled due to inclement weather. Meet at the TBG main entrance\, just outside the George and Kathy Dembroski Centre for Horticulture. The walk will start promptly at 5:30 a.m.\, arrive early to arrive on time. His home is a revolving door of tropical plants. Beni is also passionate about birdwatching and wildlife photography. In the last three years\, he has led many guided birdwatching walks around Toronto and has written several articles for Trellis magazine illustrated with his nature photographs. SUMMARY:Forest Bathing at the Garden
DESCRIPTION:Connect with nature and join us for a guided forest therapy walk!\n\n\nRekindle your relationship with nature this Spring through a guided outdoor Forest Bathing walk with certified Forest Therapy guide Laura Bincik. At a slow pace and in community with other participants and the environment\, you will be guided by a series of invitations throughout the experience to awaken your senses and intentionally connect with nature in the present moment. \nWe will gather briefly indoors to prepare for the walk and consider the origin of Forest Bathing as well as some of the benefits of the practice. When we venture into the Toronto Botanical Gardens and surrounding ravine\, we will cover a loop of approx.1.5 Km on paved pathways\, lawns and bare ground\, at times encountering uneven terrain\, inclines and declines. We will be strolling\, standing and sitting (if you wish to). Your comfort and safety are most important! As this program occurs rain or shine\, please dress for the weather and wear sturdy\, closed-toed footwear. Long pants and shirt sleeves will help to protect against insect bites. You may wish to bring a water bottle\, sunhat/glasses\, walking poles and/or a folding stool or sitting/kneeling pad. \nAs the walk ends\, we will gather and partake in a seasonal tea\, snacks and taste honey harvested at Toronto Botanical Garden. \nThis program runs rain or shine. In the case of severe or dangerous weather\, you will be informed by TBG if program is cancelled by 9:00 AM on the morning of. \nWashrooms are available onsite. \nThe program is suited for adults 18+. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a fun-filled day of creating beautiful artwork using botanical ink!In this workshop you’ll learn how to draw a leaf using a classic dip pen with black walnut ink. The warm brown ink evokes the timeless drawings of Renaissance Master Leonardo da Vinci. Our instructor will also explain how to make your own ink. All participants will go home with a dip pen handle\, metal drawing nip and small bottle of black walnut ink made at Toronto Botanical Garden! No experience is required; just bring your curiosity and enthusiasm! Beginners welcome. Materials are included. You will take home the following: 1 dip pen handle 1 Japanese metal drawing nib 1 sheet of archival quality herbarium paper 1 small bottle of Black Walnut ink made at TBG. Saturday\, April 12\, 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Registration: Public $65\, TBG Members $55 (plus applicable taxes and fees) About Alan Li Artist and conservationist Alan Li uses pencils\, ink and paint to document the wonders of the natural world. Alan’s mission is to build connections to nature through arts-based education. Since 2015\, he has been partnering with non-profit environmental organizations to teach nature focused art programs and workshops. Alan was responsible for the successful launch of the Toronto Nature Sketch program in 2018\, teaching all of the art lessons during that inaugural year. Nature Sketch is an initiative of Canadian artist Robert Bateman and the Bateman Foundation. In 2019\, Alan was a speaker at the annual Ravine Symposium at Toronto Botanical Garden. In his presentation\, he shared stories behind ravine inspired artwork created by himself and a small brigade of volunteer artists. Funds raised through the sale of the artwork were donated to ravine conservation initiatives at the garden. DESCRIPTION:It’s Back! Our popular Hellebore Sale. Our selection of Hellebores will be available for pre-order through our Online Shop starting on Thursday\, February 17\, 2025.  \n\n\n\nOrders will be ready for in-person pickup on Saturday\, April 5\, 2025 at the Toronto Botanical Garden Floral Hall from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Hellebores will also be available to purchase on the day of the sale. Quantities are limited so shop early for the best selection. \n\n\n\nHelleborus\, or Lenten roses as they are more commonly referred to in the trade\, are a sought-after garden plant for many reasons. These highly hybridized plants boast beautiful flowers\, evergreen foliage\, and are one of the earliest blooming perennials. The modern hybrids of this genus build upon the classics and pack a punch. Helleborus x ballardiae\, Helleborus x glandorfensis and\, Helleborus x iburgensis combine the cold hardiness of Helleborus niger with the colour selections of Helleborus x hybridus\, with the added bonuses of disease resistance and larger showier blooms. These plants do well in the garden or in containers.When you purchase your hellebores make sure to place it in a part shade location away from harsh cold winds. They prefer soils that are rich in humus with good drainage and aren’t afraid of getting wet feet in the winter months. The ideal time to plant it is in the fall before the ground freezes. Spring is also a great option\, just make sure to provide adequate water through the growing months. \n\n\n\nA majority of Lenten rose hybrids have Helleborus niger as one of the parent plants\, so it may take your plant a year or two to settle into its new home before it blooms. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nFor more information contact the Garden Shop at orders@torontobotanicalgarden.ca.

Alan was responsible for the successful launch of the Toronto Nature Sketch program in 2018\, teaching all of the art lessons during that inaugural year. Nature Sketch is an initiative of Canadian artist Robert Bateman and the Bateman Foundation. In 2019\, Alan was a speaker at the annual Ravine Symposium at Toronto Botanical Garden. In his presentation\, he shared stories behind ravine inspired artwork created by himself and a small brigade of volunteer artists. Session 2 – Garden to Table: Get to know your veggies! Monday\, March 24: Brassica\, Solanum\, Curcubita\, Cucumis\, Lactuca\, and Daucus\, oh my! In this program we will introduce some of the most popular vegetable families\, how to nurture them\, protect them from pests and disease\, and when to harvest. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a transformative experience\, where you’ll find inner peace and relaxation.Toronto Botanical Garden has partnered with Mira Kopanarov\, a Storyteller and Artist\, to offer a six-month breathwork experience program for creative transformation. Each class is independent and tailored towards gradual body and mind care. You can register for as many or as few as you like. The Guided Breathwork Experience program at the Toronto Botanical Garden uniquely combines breath with storytelling\, movement\, and nature to create a healthy and creative journey into the new year. Each class’ focus will be different\, progressively allowing your awareness and body to be healthier and energized. In the most challenging month of the year\, we will practice accepting and finding peace\, love\, and vibrant energy without compromising. Our mental and physical well-being is shaped by too many environments. DESCRIPTION:Get your hands dirty and learn how to propagate your plants!In this workshop\, you will learn how to cut your plants! Exciting\, right? You’ll have the chance to get your hands dirty by propagating/dividing different houseplant species. Learn the basics of monitoring root health by inspecting plant cuttings at different stages of growth. Learn about the importance of various growing mediums. Participants will break into groups and work together. You will have the chance to take cuttings home and we hope that you’ll keep us posted on their progress! All materials will be provided. SUMMARY:Houseplant Clinic: What's Wrong with My Indoor Plants?
DESCRIPTION:Join us at the Houseplant Clinic to diagnose and cure all your indoor plants’ ailments!Are you noticing yellow\, droopy leaves on your houseplant? Perhaps you’ve also noticed sticky leaves or an infestation of little flies or spiders. Don’t worry – TBG Horticulturalists are here to help! Join us for this in-person houseplant clinic where we will introduce common problems and their remedies and then we’ll help you identify and solve common problems that your indoor plants may be experiencing! Remember\, prevention is key when it comes to keeping your houseplants healthy.   Important: Your plant MUST be brought to TBG in a transparent plastic bags–this ‘portable greenhouse’ will keep your plant safe and keep your plant problems to your own plant. We cannot take the risk that your indoor plant problem becomes ours! Any plant not in a transparent bag will not be admitted. DESCRIPTION:Join us and learn about how to best utilize space in your designs!\n\n\nBy focusing on the size of various designs this course will illuminate questions of scale\, proportion\, and the use of space in design. The elements can be used surprisingly differently in different sizes of arrangements. Choosing plant material for your design can be challenging and creative mechanics may be needed to make it all work.
