She was introduced to horticulture and gardening almost from birth\, since her father was a botany professor and her mother a plant pathologist! Throughout her childhood the talk at the dinner table was often about plants\, and visiting gardens and garden centres were part of daily life. Despite her best teenaged efforts to repel the gardening bug she was unsuccessful! \n \nAs soon as Joanna came to Canada from the UK\, she got going with houseplants\, flower boxes and books about plants. Moving into a house with a garden expanded the possibilities\, and her gardening efforts have progressed from there. \n \nAfter several decades of gardening successes and many failures\, she loves to share her passion for all things horticultural. \n \nJoanna is a past coordinator of the Toronto Master Gardeners and past president of the Leaside Garden Society. SUMMARY:Forest Bathing at the Garden
DESCRIPTION:Connect with nature and join us for a guided forest therapy walk!\nRekindle your relationship with nature on the fall equinox through a guided outdoor forest bathing walk with certified Forest Therapy guide Laura Bincik. At a slow pace and in community with other participants and the environment\, you will be guided by a series of invitations throughout the experience to awaken your senses and intentionally connect with nature in the present moment.\n \nWe will gather briefly indoors to prepare for the walk and consider the origin of forest bathing\, as well as some of the benefits of the practice. When we venture into the Toronto Botanical Gardens\, we will cover a loop of approximately 1.5 km on paved pathways\, lawns\, and bare ground\, at times encountering uneven terrain\, inclines\, and declines. We will be strolling\, standing\, and sitting (if you wish to). Your comfort and safety are most important!\n \nPlease note: Due to the recent storm\, the surrounding Wilket Creek Ravine faced severe damage and has unfortunately remained closed to the public until repairs can be made. The upcoming forest bathing walk will be held on the Toronto Botanical Garden property only as it is not safe to venture into the ravine. You will still be invited to enjoy the beauty of the gardens at the edge of the forest as you reconnect with nature and celebrate the fall equinox. \n \nAs this program occurs rain or shine\, please dress for the weather and wear sturdy\, closed-toed footwear. Long pants and shirt sleeves will help to protect against insect bites. You may wish to bring a water bottle\, sunhat/glasses\, walking poles\, and/or a folding stool or sitting/kneeling pad.\n \nAs the walk ends\, we will gather and partake in a seasonal tea and snacks\, and taste honey harvested at Toronto Botanical Garden.\n \nIn the event of severe weather or environmental conditions\, TBG staff will make alternative arrangements to the program.\n \nWashrooms are available onsite.\n \nThe program is suited for adults 18+. Since 2015\, he has been partnering with non-profit environmental organizations to teach nature focused art programs and workshops.\n \nAlan was responsible for the successful launch of the Toronto Nature Sketch program in 2018\, teaching all of the art lessons during that inaugural year. Nature Sketch is an initiative of Canadian artist Robert Bateman and the Bateman Foundation.\n \nIn 2019\, Alan was a speaker at the annual Ravine Symposium at Toronto Botanical Garden. In his presentation\, he shared stories behind ravine-inspired artwork created by himself and a small brigade of volunteer artists. Using Glassline Paint\, coloured frit\, and stringers\, Millean Kung will guide you through creating your own fall scene on a 6” x 6” plate. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a fall birding nature walk!\nFall migration is well underway! Join TBG Horticulturist and avid birder Sasan Beni for an engaging walk through the gardens and Wilket Creek Ravine\, as you seek out the wildlife that call this place home. Learn how to identify the many different species passing through and how you can help them in their journey.\n \nBring your binoculars for a better view (we will have extras on hand) and a mug/thermos for a warm beverage and post-birding chat.\n \nAs with any wildlife tour\, the spotting of birds and other wildlife is not guaranteed and is not within the control of the tour guide. His home is a revolving door of tropical plants. Beni is also passionate about birdwatching and wildlife photography. Since 2015\, he has been partnering with non-profit environmental organizations to teach nature focused art programs and workshops.\n \nAlan was responsible for the successful launch of the Toronto Nature Sketch program in 2018\, teaching all of the art lessons during that inaugural year. Nature Sketch is an initiative of Canadian artist Robert Bateman and the Bateman Foundation.\n \nIn 2019\, Alan was a speaker at the annual Ravine Symposium at Toronto Botanical Garden. In his presentation\, he shared stories behind ravine-inspired artwork created by himself and a small brigade of volunteer artists. DESCRIPTION:Connect with nature and join us for a guided forest therapy walk!\nRekindle your relationship with nature this summer through a guided outdoor forest bathing walk with certified Forest Therapy guide Laura Bincik. At a slow pace and in community with other participants and the environment\, you will be guided by a series of invitations throughout the experience to awaken your senses and intentionally connect with nature in the present moment.\n \nWe will gather briefly indoors to prepare for the walk and consider the origin of forest bathing as well as some of the benefits of the practice. When we venture into the Toronto Botanical Gardens and surrounding ravine\, we will cover a loop of approx.1.5 km on paved pathways\, lawns and bare ground\, at times encountering uneven terrain\, inclines and declines. We will be strolling\, standing and sitting (if you wish to). Your comfort and safety are most important!\n \nAs this program occurs rain or shine\, please dress for the weather and wear sturdy\, closed-toed footwear. Long pants and shirt sleeves will help to protect against insect bites. DESCRIPTION:Connect with nature and join us for a guided forest therapy walk!\n \nRekindle your relationship with nature this spring through a guided outdoor Forest Bathing walk with certified Forest Therapy guide Laura Bincik. At a slow pace and in community with other participants and the environment\, you will be guided by a series of invitations throughout the experience to awaken your senses and intentionally connect with nature in the present moment.\n \nWe will gather briefly indoors to prepare for the walk and consider the origin of Forest Bathing as well as some of the benefits of the practice. When we venture into the Toronto Botanical Gardens and surrounding ravine\, we will cover a loop of approx.1.5 km on paved pathways\, lawns and bare ground\, at times encountering uneven terrain\, inclines and declines. We will be strolling\, standing and sitting (if you wish to). Your comfort and safety are most important! As this program occurs rain or shine\, please dress for the weather and wear sturdy\, closed-toed footwear. Long pants and shirt sleeves will help to protect against insect bites. You may wish to bring a water bottle\, sunhat/glasses\, walking poles and/or a folding stool or sitting/kneeling pad.\n \nAs the walk ends\, we will gather and partake in a seasonal tea\, snacks and taste honey harvested at Toronto Botanical Garden.\n \nIn the event of severe weather or environmental conditions\, TBG staff will make alternative arrangements to the program.\n \nWashrooms are available onsite.\n \nThe program is suited for adults 18+. Alan’s mission is to build connections to nature through arts-based education. Since 2015\, he has been partnering with non-profit environmental organizations to teach nature focused art programs and workshops. \nAlan was responsible for the successful launch of the Toronto Nature Sketch program in 2018\, teaching all of the art lessons during that inaugural year. Nature Sketch is an initiative of Canadian artist Robert Bateman and the Bateman Foundation. \nIn 2019\, Alan was a speaker at the annual Ravine Symposium at Toronto Botanical Garden. In his presentation\, he shared stories behind ravine inspired artwork created by himself and a small brigade of volunteer artists.
