SUMMARY:Bulbs\, Corms\, Rhizomes\, and Tubers
DESCRIPTION:Learn about geophytes\, plants with underground storage\, like crocus and daffodils!\n \nWhen you think about it\, most plants we grow have two main parts: above and below the soil. Geophytes are plants that have organs growing below the soil which store energy and nutrients to help the future plant grow the material above the soil. In this workshop you will learn about some popular types of geophytes\, including when to plant\, harvest\, and how to propagate your favorites!\n \nTuesday\, September 12\, from 6 to 7 p.m.\nRegistration: FREE\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Joanna Blanchard \n\n\n\nJoanna was introduced to gardening by her father\, a horticulture professor and her mother\, a plant pathologist! Her earliest memories of gardening include anxiously watching the growth of radishes and annual flowers in her own little plot in the back garden. \n\n\n\nWhen Joanna moved from the UK to Toronto\, she purchased a window box for the apartment balcony\, several houseplants and of course. a book about gardening. Moving to a house offered more gardening possibilities. Through trial and error\, taking courses and attending seminars\, she now enjoys sharing her knowledge and stories of her successes and failures. Joanna has been a member of the Toronto Master Gardeners since 2009 and is a past Executive Coordinator. She is currently co-president of the Leaside Garden Society. \n\n\n\nToronto Botanical Garden is a non-profit organization. If you are able\, please consider donating to TBG\, Donate Today. Your generosity will go a long way in helping us maintain and improve our Garden\, making TBG an iconic cultural attraction\, achieving excellence in plant-focused learning\, display\, and plant conservation. \n\n\n\nRegistration Deadline: Tuesday\, September 12\, noon \n\n\n\nSafe Program Access \n\n\n\nTo ensure the safety of our participants and instructors\, all staff\, volunteers\, and participants are welcome to wear masks indoors and maintain physical distancing. SUMMARY:(CANCELLED) Summer Forest Bathing at the Garden (AFTERNOON)
DESCRIPTION:Join us this summer for a unique forest bathing walk on-site at the Toronto Botanical Garden (TBG). Certified Forest Therapy Guide Emma Rooney will lead you on an outdoor experience to stretch your sensory awareness while deepening your connection with nature. \n\n\n\nForest bathing—taking in the forest atmosphere—is a practice that originated in Japan in the 1980s to address burnout caused by the technological boom. Now\, the practice has inspired people all over the world to connect with nearby nature. You will learn about some of the benefits of forest therapy and be gently guided in the practice. As you walk leisurely through TBG’s grounds\, you’ll receive gentle prompts to help fully engage your senses—seeing\, hearing\, smelling\, tasting\, and touching the nature surrounding you. Immerse yourself in the new season and deepen your relationship with the wild things in our city. \n\n\n\nThe walk ends with a seasonal tea\, where we’ll share some poetry to allow the experience to sink in. Don’t miss your chance to try forest bathing for yourself in a beautiful outdoor setting! Leave with ideas for getting outside at any time of the year and feeling the benefits of being nurtured by nature. \n\n\n\nSaturday\, June 24\, 2 to 5 p.m.Public $50\, Member $40 \n\n\n\nhttps://www.eventbrite.ca/e/cancelledsummer-forest-bathing-at-the-garden-afternoon-session-tickets-625862219747\n\n\n\nAccessibility: \n\n\n\nWe’ll begin with an introduction indoors before heading outside. The walk will be at a leisurely pace throughout\, following designated pathways and trails but sometimes covering uneven terrain and steep inclines. The total walk distance over the three hours is approximately 2 km. Dress appropriately for the weather and walk slowly. Wearing layers is recommended. Closed-toed shoes are required. SUMMARY:Summer Forest Bathing at the Garden (MORNING)
\n\n\n\nSaturday\, June 24\, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.Public $50\, Member $40 \n\n\n\nhttps://www.eventbrite.ca/e/summer-forest-bathing-at-the-garden-morning-session-tickets-625860193687\n\n\n\nAccessibility: \n\n\n\nWe’ll begin with an introduction indoors before heading outside. SUMMARY:An Introduction to Mindfulness Through Movement and Meditation - CANCELLED
