SUMMARY:Mindfulness\, Meditation\, and Movement
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an immersive experience of mindfulness\, meditation\, and movement. \n\n\n\nWhat is mindfulness\, how can it help you\, and how do you do it? What’s the difference between mindfulness and meditation? How can movement connect these concepts? \n\n\n\nThis session with physiotherapist Susan Czyzo will begin by providing a relatable introduction to mindfulness. We will explore its meaning\, purpose\, and relevance in our modern lives. By breaking down the abstract nature of mindfulness\, participants will gain a clearer understanding of its essence. Meditation is a fundamental aspect of mindfulness. During the workshop\, participants will be guided through various meditation techniques to connect with the present moment. Grounded in her deep knowledge of the body\, physiotherapy and pilates\, Susan will help you connect with and become more deeply aware of your physical body and emotions through gentle movement. To deepen the learning experience\, time will be allocated for group discussion. Participants will have the opportunity to share their insights\, ask questions\, and reflect on their experiences with mindfulness. This communal aspect will foster a sense of belonging and support among participants. Whether you are a beginner or seeking to reinvigorate your mindfulness practice\, this workshop offers a valuable opportunity for personal growth and well-being. \n\n\n\nWear comfortable clothing and remember to bring a yoga mat and water bottle. \n\n\n\nProgram Schedule \n\n\n\nWednesday\, February 21\, 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. \n\n\n\nPublic $28\, TBG Members $25 (plus applicable taxes and fees) \n\n\n\n\nRegister Today\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Susan Czyzo \nSusan Czyzo supports adults in living active\, mindful and grounded lives so that they can do what they love and lead meaningful lives. Susan does this through mindfulness coaching and teaching\, physiotherapy\, and Pilates. Her approach to health and healing is an active and holistic one. She wants to leave her clients feeling secure and inspired to take action toward better physical and mental health. Knowing that most of us lead busy lives\, Susan strives to help her clients make shifts that are accessible and sustainable\, and to pass on the tools they can use long after she stops working with them. A lover of the outdoors\, Susan believes that when we take care of our health\, we’re also helping to take care of the planet. \nhttps://groundedphysiotherapy.ca/ \nJoin Toronto Botanical Garden \nJoin the Toronto Botanical Garden (TBG) as a member to get a discount on this program\, upcoming events and classes\, and free parking.
\n\n\n\nProgram Schedule \n\n\n\nSaturday\, January 27\, 10 to 11:30 a.m. Some of the earliest formal gardens were the sixteenth-century medicinal Physic Gardens of Italy. Today botanical gardens can have a wide variety of missions and functions\, from education\, conservation\, research\, and leisure. They are typically defined as a space that is open to the public that displays a curated collection of plants that are documented and/or labelled\, and may be accompanied by a library\, herbarium\, arboretum\, or greenhouse. \n\n\n\nToronto Botanical Garden is home to many different garden areas which showcase ornamental and native plantings\, a teaching demonstration garden\, and display beds. Inside of our main building the Horticulture department has been growing a new collection of plants that are tropical in nature. SUMMARY:(SOLD OUT) Embroidered Botany: Workshop with Amanda McCavour
DESCRIPTION:In this brand-new offering\, Amanda McCarvour will share the techniques she has developed to create ethereal sculptures. Her work explores an often-overlooked side of embroidery: the structural possibilities versus the inherent fragility of thread. This full-day workshop will explore machine and hand embroidery to create botanical designs that explore texture and color. \n\n\n\nStudents will trace a botanical design from a series of provided drawings and will translate this into textile with collaging threads\, wool\, and yarns with stitched lines. Students will learn how to work with water soluble stabilizers and will explore texture\, pattern\, and line with hand embroidery to create a one-of-a-kind piece. She is interested in finding connections between scientific research and decorative patterns found in textiles and wallpaper. Her lace-like pieces are made by sewing into fabric that dissolves in water. When the fabric is dissolved\, the thread drawings interlock together even without a base. Plants and their ecologies are similarly linked—a biological network is a bound system that sustains a community of plants. \nMcCavour holds a BFA from York University and an MFA in Fibers and Material Studies from Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia. McCavour shows her work in galleries nationally and internationally and has completed residencies at Harbourfront Centre’s Textile Studio in Toronto\, and the Klondike Institute of Art and Culture in Dawson City\, Yukon. She has been recognized by the Ontario Crafts Council\, The Canada Council for the Arts\, The Handweavers and Spinners Guild of America\, The Ontario Society of Artists\, The Surface Design Association\, and The Embroiderers Guild of America. \n  \nJoin Toronto Botanical Garden\nJoin the Toronto Botanical Garden (TBG) as a member to get a discount on this program\, upcoming events and classes\, and free parking.
