In February we had our first plant collective we’ve partnered with is BC Rare Tropical Plantswho specialize in importing, and propagating uncommon and rare tropical plants! The auction took place from February 26 – 28 and we thank everyone who participated. Congratulations to the lucky winners of these amazing plants. Winners will be contacted by email and the plants will be shipped to you within the next week. If you have any question, please contact retail@torontobotanicalgarden.ca.
These were the four plants we auctioned in February which raised over $1000 for the gardens.
Epipremnum pinnatum Cebu Blue. With striking silvery blue-green leaves, this plant is new to the market and will quickly become a favourite in your collection. This vining plant is a fast grower, and easy to propagate. Keep this plant in a hanging basket, or let it climb up a moss pole. This particular plant is already showing its fenestrations (holes in the leaves), which is not often seen in Cebu’s for sale in the industry.
Syngonium podophyllum Albo-variegatum. A highly sought after, easy to grow aroid. This plant has striking arrow-shaped leaves and stunning chimeric variegation. Each unfurling leaf will teach you the meaning of anticipation. As this plant matures it will start to vine, therefore it is often kept in hanging baskets, or given a moss pole to climb.
Monstera deliciosa ‘Thai Constellation’. This is a spectacular variegated Monstera, known for its splashes and streaks of creamy yellow. Said to be reminiscent of a galaxy, the variegation on this plant varies from leaf to leaf and plant to plant. Each time a leaf unfurls it will draw you into its universe. As the plant matures, the leaves will get larger, and the fenestrations (holes in the leaves) more interesting. This plant is easy to care for and will quickly become a favourite.
VariegatedAnthurium hookeri (Variegated Birdsnest Anthurium)’. A fairly new release to the market. This beautiful Anthurium has the same care requirements as most other anthuriums. A frequent bloomer, this plant’s leaves can reach 4-5’ in length! Anthurium hookeri is known for its strong supporting roots and beautiful form. The variegation on this plant varies from plant to plant, making them a true Unicorn Plant!
We’ve also partnered with PlantRunz who have donated their services. They will be delivering plants directly to the auction winners home.
ABOUT OUR MONTHLY ONLINE PLANT AUCTIONS
Building on the success of TBG’s first online plant auction in 2020, we’ve connected with online Plant Collectives from across Canada. They’ll be donating plants for our monthly plant auctions, and we’ll be showcasing a new plant collective each month. This is a new initiative that will help raise needed funds for our gardens, raise awareness and connect with a new generation of plant enthusiasts… and of course… we will all have some online fun too! Spread the word!!!
