[PG19S28] Week 1: Linocut printmaking
Learn techniques for creating original handmade prints. You will first be shown how to draw and carve a block of Softoleum (a premium grade of linoleum) using native trees leaves as the subject matter. Alan will then demonstrate how to ink the block and use a registration board for creating the final print. You will leave with 6 beautiful prints, carved Softoleum block and the knowledge of how to set up a linocut workspace at home. Printing inks are archival quality and oil-based, but has been modified to clean up with soap and water. Old clothes or apron are recommended.
[PG19S32] Week 2: Cyanotype printing – REGISTRATION CLOSED
Lean how to create stunning art prints using plants found in the ravine. Alan will explain each stage of the Cyanotype process including how to coat paper with light-sensitive chemistry and steps for developing an image. You will take home 8 original Cyanotype prints. Chemicals are non-toxic, but wearing old clothing or an apron is recommended.
[PG19S34] Week 3: Paper bird kites – CANCELLED
Birds have long been associated with kite artists from Japan and China. This workshop will take inspiration from the orient and you will learn how make a kite using traditional materials of bamboo and mulberry paper. For a twist, local material found growing in the ravine will be incorporated. Once the kites are built, with guidance from Alan, you will decorate your kite to resemble a bird found in Wilket Creek.
[PG19S36] Week 4: Pinhole camera photography – CANCELLED
Learn how to make a classic pinhole camera and how to take photos around the TBG gardens. Alan will also demonstrate how to print the photos in a traditional darkroom setting.
