Botanical Nerd Word: Vagile

Mature anemone seed head dispersing seeds

Vagile: (From Latin vagus wandering, straying). Of an organism or group of organisms: having the ability to disperse or be dispersed in an environment.*

The seeds of this plant, Anemone tomentosa ‘Robustissima’, each have a woolly tuft of fine hairs. This allows the seeds to travel on the wind for long distances, greatly increasing the plant’s vagility.
