Botanical Nerd Word: Invasive

Invasive: A non-native plant that is reproducing on its own and interfering with the normal functions and/or composition of an ecosystem.*

February 25 – March 3, 2019 is Invasive Species Awareness Week. The picture above shows the previous year’s growth of Japanese Knotweed along with early spring growth. Knotweed is one of many invasive plants posing a wide-spread, serious threat to Toronto’s natural areas.
