Celebrate Earth Day at Toronto Botanical Garden

By | Press Room | Tags: , , , | April 17, 2012 | No comments

Sunday April 22, 12 noon to 4 p.m.

Here at the TBG, every day is Earth Day. Our staff, volunteers, supporters and community networks work together year-round to help bring to life the TBG’s green practices, environmental initiatives and educational efforts. Come to Toronto Botanical Garden on Sunday April 22 and help us celebrate this year’s “official” day.

TBG Earth Day activities include FREE family fun in our bright and beautiful James Boyd Children’s Centre. The TBG Kids staff will show you how to build bird houses from recycled materials, plant a take-home container, meet the worms and other creative, hands-on experiences. There will also be Children’s hikes at 1pm and 3pm to the Teaching Garden to plant a veggie that will be donated to local North York Harvest Food Bank!

TBG’s Head Gardener, Sandra Pella, and Nancy Eaton Director of Horticulture, Paul Zammit, will welcome you in the TBG’s Kitchen Garden to plant this year’s crop of Asian vegetables and herbs. Every year we choose a country or culture to celebrate, and this year’s Kitchen Garden draws inspiration from the beautiful country of China. Some of the produce harvested from this garden will be served during our popular “Taste of the Garden: China” event on Thursday, August 16.

Toronto Botanical Garden (TBG) encourages, stimulates and teaches countless adults and children with its innovative, urban-scale garden plantings, nature-centred educational programs and environmentally-friendly practices. We look beyond our borders to create strategic alliances that support our mission, extend our reach and strengthen our influence within the community.
