Would be nice to hold a story time throughout the summer as well. Possibly to a larger age group (up to 5 years old?). I only came to one session, as I just found about it this June, but it was really nice, and it’s so wonderful to combine some physical and outdoor activity with literacy and social interaction (and some air conditioning, if it’s too hot). Actually – would be nice to have such a program outside in the park, on the grass. There is a study suggesting that people learn better when in movement, but even if it’s just a crazy idea – it’s a totally different experience doing it outside… Do counting songs with clover leaves, pine cones, rolling on the grass, count sticks (“5-6 pick up sticks”), sing about trees when we see them, about leaves, about flowers. Doing it outside provides a whole new set of possibilities! Yes, I can do it on my own, but kids sometimes need to see it in a group setting to get curious about it – watch other kids sing along…
