June through
September 2010 - Toronto Botanical Garden kicks off a summer-long exhibition,
"Edible Summer", a celebration of local food and growing your
own. Here are some of the highlights:
CHILDREN'S
EDIBLE GARDEN
How do you Spell Summer? Y-U-M-M-Y! Be sure to visit the children's Teaching
Garden with its extensive organic vegetable garden planted and tended
by kids- including the demonstration Pizza Garden.
GUIDED
TOURS
Free guided tours will take place Tuesdays at 10 a.m. and Wednesdays at
7 p.m. starting from shopTBG. Booked tour packages for bus groups have
been designed for full day and half day tours.
ITALIAN KITCHEN GARDEN
The 2010 Kitchen Garden draws inspiration from the beautiful and culturally
rich country of Italy.
TASTE OF THE GARDEN : CULINARY SERIES
On four Thursdays throughout the summer participate in our local culinary
series, which includes a guided stroll through the gardens and dining
"en plein air" with a la Carte Kitchen Chef Simon Kattar and
special guests.
URBAN
VEGETABLE GARDENING
This NEW series will take you through all the stages of successful and
sustainable gardening - from planning your garden to harvesting and preparing
for the next growing season.
EDIBLE CONTAINERS
A series of Edible Herb Containers in the Demo Courtyard to inspire urban
newbie gardeners. PLUS
The Trial Garden will be filled with Edibles and there will be other "Edible
Jewels" throughout the property.
TRELLIS
MAGAZINE: EDIBLE ISSUE
This "special edition" is all about edibles, from veggies to
flowers, with plenty of growing information for both novice and experienced
gardeners. Over 5,000 copies will be printed for this edition and will
be on sale at Canada Blooms, the Green Living Show and at select retail
outlets (including shopTBG) throughout the summer for $5 each.
