Helleborus foetidus in the Entry Garden Jan 9, 2013

What’s in Bloom: It’s nice to be under snow!

Even if only for awhile – the weather man is calling for rain Friday – it is so nice to see the garden under snow!  Here, Helleborus foetidus (Stinking hellebore) in the Entry Garden by the shed, with buds ready to pop.

Last year at this time hellebore buds were already opening.  Here in the West View Terrace against the building, many plants in the Hellebore Collection are setting bud under the snow.

In the Nature Garden, the branches of Myrica pensylvanica (Northern bayberry) are fully laden with smoky blue berries.

The Knot Garden looks especially nice under snow, showcasing all the evergreens.
